Research Group in Biology of Cognition
Our group investigates the cellular and molecular processes that correlate with learning and memory performance in mice. We particularly focus on those processes where the endocannabinoid system, a neuromodulatory system widely distributed throughout the organism, may play a relevant role. Our studies explore the effects of cannabis components, primarily delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol, on learning and memory, the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in features of mice that mimic genetic alterations associated with intellectual disability, and alterations in cognitive performance associated with ageing. The overall objective of these research lines is to explore the endocannabinoid system as a target to improve cognitive performance.
